Today, we face many different kinds of stressful situations, which affect the body as well as the mind and emotions. Prolonged stress can cause the body to develop some of the following illnesses; ulcers, high blood pressure, insomnia, anxiety attacks, skin disorders, and many other health conditions. Massage is often recommended by doctors for relief of tension, anxiety, worry and anger, in that, it aids in physical and mental relaxation.
Massage therapy dates back more than 3,000 years. Used by the Chinese, Hindus, Egyptians, Persians, and ancient Greeks, the therapeutic benefits of various types of massage have been documented for centuries. Massage therapy has been shown to have a wide array of benefits. From anxiety reduction and pain relief to improved circulation, the therapeutic effects of touch promote all aspects of wellness.
Massage has been studied for its use with premature infants, adults who have recently experienced a heart attack or stroke, athletes who desire to increase their athletic performance and shorten recuperation time, victims of sexual abuse, grieving patients and those who have lost limbs or experience unusual pains. Currently, the effects of massage are being studied for its use in family relations and in dealing with the separation felt when children become teenagers.
SERVICES OFFERED AT THE HEALING CENTER
SWEDISH MASSAGE—Swedish massage relaxes muscles through pressure applied to the muscles and joints with soothing strokes returning blood to the heart. This increases oxygen flow and releases toxins built up in the muscles.
HOT STONE MASSAGE—Hot stone massage is a specialty massage that uses smooth, heated stones. It uses traditional strokes of Swedish massage while holding a heated stone. The heat from the stones relaxes muscles, increase the blood flow to the area being worked on which further accelerates the healing process. This increase in circulation and the relaxation of the muscles also aids in mental relaxation.
AROMA THERAPY-Aromatherapy is the inhalation of plant oils, called essential oils, for improved physical, mental, and emotional well-being. Essential oils are the pure essence of the plant—often referred to as nature's living energy—and can provide both psychological and physical benefits.

FREQUENTLY ASKED MASSAGE QUESTIONS
Do I need to take my clothes off?
For most types of massage therapy, the answer is usually yes as a rule. However, the amount of clothing you need to remove depends largely on the extent of the treatment you are receiving. For full body treatments, most clients opt to remove all their clothes. You will be covered with a sheet, so the only parts showing are the parts being treated.
What is the best frequency of treatment?
This will vary. If you are seeking massage treatment for remediation from a recent injury, it is usually recommend that the first two or three treatments be spaced every three to four days or weekly depending on the severity of the pain or dysfunction. For therapeutic treatments, most people find that once a week or month suits their needs, but some come more frequently.
Will therapy hurt?
If at any time the treatment you are receiving is causing you too much discomfort, ask the therapist to stop or ease off for a few minutes. Be open and let the therapist know how you are feeling and your treatment will be a lot more enjoyable and productive. The old adage "no pain no gain" is not relevant to massage therapy treatments you receive. You should feel better at the end of each treatment and it will become more comfortable as your dysfunctions improve. After a session, you may feel some mild discomfort or muscle soreness for a few days until your body readjusts and heals itself.
